grace & salt

LESSON 1

When I really sat with the words of Paul in Colossians 4:6, I realized that as followers of Jesus, it’s essential that we incorporate both grace and salt (truth), into our communication style as leaders in a fast-paced and often overwhelming world. Here in Lesson 1, this verse forms the foundation that carries us into the rest of the lessons. Ultimately, we learn that knowing how much grace and salt to bring into our conversations is not always straightforward and must be tailored to each situation - but the fruit of this careful application has the potential to transform how we approach leadership.

LESSON 2

Bringing my relational side into my work and leadership style was never something I really considered for the majority of my time in corporate America. But a closer look at Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians shifted my perspective. It’s here that Paul demonstrates how relationships make it possible for our message to be more effective. In Lesson 2 we learn that when we take the time to build relationships with the people we lead and work alongside, we in turn create an atmosphere of belonging that strengthens employees’ level of engagement.

LESSON 3

With the life of Jesus as our guide, Lesson 3 walks us through what it means to be a servant-leader, a term originally introduced back in 1970 by Robert K. Greenleaf. When I discovered Greenleaf and his framework for analyzing someone’s leadership style with the Greenleaf Best Test, I knew that I wanted to use it to analyze the leadership style of Jesus, our best example of servant-leadership. In this lesson, we do just this and much more to discover the importance of transitioning into a servant-leadership mentality and incorporating it into our daily leadership routine.
